What makes a lock sound great on a Tesla?
Three things separate a lock sound people love from one they disable after a week: length, normalization, and recognition.
Tesla plays your LockChime.wav every time you walk away from the car. The sweet spot is under 2 seconds— long enough to register, short enough that your neighbors don't hate you. Every sound in our library is already trimmed and formatted to Tesla's 44.1 kHz/16-bit WAV spec.
Normalization matters because Tesla's external speakers run at a fixed volume. A sound mastered too quiet will be inaudible from 10 feet; too loud and it clips. Our installation guide covers volume targets in detail.
Recognition is the payoff. The best lock sounds are instantly identifiable — a one-note cue that makes you smile every time you hear it through the window.
Why we rank by download count
Editorial "best of" lists are guesswork. Download counts are ground truth — 440+ sounds on the platform, and Tesla owners vote with their USB drives. The list below updates automatically as the community downloads more sounds, so this page never goes stale.

How to install your Tesla lock sound
Every sound you download from this site is already named LockChime.wav and formatted correctly for Tesla. The install is three steps:
- Format a USB drive as FAT32 (or exFAT) and create a
LockChimefolder at the root. - Drop
LockChime.wavinside that folder. - Plug the drive into your Tesla, then go to Controls → Safety → Customize Lock Sound and select your file.
Check our full installation guide for model-specific steps, USB format requirements, and common troubleshooting. Looking for the Tron Easter egg aesthetic? See the Tesla Tron Mode sounds guide.
