How to adjust Tesla Boombox lock-sound volume

The Boombox lock-sound volume is independent from media volume. Three taps and a slider — that’s it.

  1. Step 1

    Open Vehicle settings

On your Tesla touchscreen, tap the car icon (bottom left), then tap Vehicle in the side menu.

  2. Step 2

    Find the Locks panel

Scroll to Locks. The Boombox lock-sound volume lives here next to the Walk-Away Lock and Speed-Based Lock toggles.

  3. Step 3

    Drag the Boombox volume slider

The Boombox lock sound has its own slider, separate from media volume. Drag left to soften, right to make it louder. Lock the car to hear the new level.

Install in 60 seconds

Install a Boombox lock sound in four quick steps

Step 1

Download a Boombox-ready WAV

Pick any sound below — every download arrives as LockChime.wav in 44.1kHz 16-bit PCM, the exact format Tesla expects.

Step 2

Drop it into a Boombox folder

On a FAT32 or exFAT USB drive, create a folder named Boombox and place LockChime.wav inside it. Full path: Boombox/LockChime.wav.

Step 3

Plug into the front USB-C port

Insert the drive into your Tesla’s front USB-C port. Wait two to three seconds so the car indexes the drive.

Step 4

Switch the source to USB

Open Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound and change from Default to USB. Lock the car to test.

FAQ

Tesla Boombox sound questions

Are Tesla Boombox sounds free to download?

Yes. Every Boombox lock sound on TeslaLockSound is free — no account, no email gate, no paywall. Each file downloads as LockChime.wav, ready to drop onto a USB drive.

What firmware do I need for Boombox custom lock sounds?

You need Tesla software 2024.20.x or newer for the latest Boombox lock-sound USB workflow. Earlier versions back to 2023.44.25 also support custom lock sounds via the same Boombox folder path.

What file format does the Tesla Boombox use?

Tesla Boombox reads a single file named LockChime.wav from a Boombox folder on a FAT32 or exFAT USB drive. The file must be 44.1kHz, 16-bit PCM WAV, between 1 and 5 seconds long.

How do I adjust the Boombox lock sound volume?

Open Vehicle → Locks on the touchscreen and drag the Boombox lock-sound volume slider. The Boombox slider is independent from the media volume — set it once and it sticks across drives.

Does a custom Boombox lock sound replace the built-in presets?

No — your custom LockChime.wav only plays when the lock sound source is set to USB. Switching back to Default in Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound restores Tesla’s built-in preset list.
