Model Y 2025 Juniper: Confirmed Compatible

The 2025 Juniper refresh redesigned the Model Y interior with a new center console and USB-C ports replacing the older USB-A slots. Boombox works the same way — the file path and folder structure are identical to every other compatible Model Y. The only change is the port connector type. Still on the 2020–2024 hardware? Six steps for the 2025 Juniper

Download a sound

Browse the library and download your preferred WAV. Every file arrives pre-named LockChime.wav.

All 1000+ sounds on TeslaLockSound are 44.1kHz 16-bit PCM — pre-converted for Tesla Boombox.

Format USB as FAT32 or exFAT

The Juniper Model Y uses USB-C. Use a USB-C drive or a USB-A drive with a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

macOS: Disk Utility → Erase → ExFAT or MS-DOS (FAT). Windows: right-click → Format → exFAT. NTFS is not recognized.

Create the Boombox folder

At the USB root, create one folder named Boombox (case-sensitive).

No subfolder needed for lock chimes — LockChime.wav goes directly inside Boombox/.

Copy LockChime.wav into Boombox/

Drop the file inside the Boombox folder. Final path must be exactly Boombox/LockChime.wav.

Verify via file browser before unplugging. Wrong path is the leading cause of 'USB not appearing'.

Plug into a front USB-C port

Use the center console USB-C (either side) or the glovebox USB-C — all three are data ports on Juniper.

Rear USB-C ports in the back seat area are power-only. Boombox will not detect them.

Enable in Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound

On the touchscreen: Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound → change Default to USB. Lock once to test.

No USB option? Remove the drive, reopen Boombox, then reinsert. It should appear within a few seconds.

2025 Juniper: Known Issues & Firmware Notes

USB-C ports replace USB-A

The Juniper interior ships with USB-C in the center console and glovebox. Standard USB-A thumb drives need a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Alternatively, use a USB-C thumb drive or a dual-connector (USB-A/USB-C) drive.

Three data ports, not two

Juniper added a third data port in the glovebox. Center console left, center console right, and glovebox USB-C are all Boombox-capable. If one doesn't show the USB option, try the others.

exFAT works better than FAT32 for larger drives

If your USB drive is 32 GB or larger, format it as exFAT — FAT32's 32 GB partition limit can cause issues on Windows formatters. Tesla's Boombox reads both formats identically.

Rear USB ports are power-only

The back-seat USB-C ports behind the center console are charging-only. Boombox cannot detect drives inserted into these ports. Use only the front three data ports.

Light Cycle plays instead of USB

File path mismatch is the top cause. Confirm the path is exactly Boombox/LockChime.wav — not the USB root, not Boombox/Locked/. Remove and reinsert the drive after verifying the path.

First-run Juniper firmware: update before Boombox

Some Juniper units delivered in late 2024 shipped on older transition firmware. If Toybox looks sparse, go to Controls → Software and check for updates. Boombox is fully stable on all 2025.x firmware.

Model Y 2025 Juniper — Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tesla Model Y 2025 (Juniper) support custom lock sounds?

Yes. The 2025 Model Y Juniper supports Boombox custom lock sounds. Place LockChime.wav at Boombox/LockChime.wav on a FAT32 or exFAT USB drive, insert into the front center console USB-C port or the glovebox USB-C port, and enable USB in Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound.

Which USB port should I use on the 2025 Model Y Juniper?

The Juniper Model Y has two USB-C data ports in the new center console plus a USB-C data port in the glovebox. Any of these three front ports work for Boombox. The two rear console ports are power-only and will not work for Boombox. Use a native USB-C drive or a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

Why is the USB option not showing in Boombox on the 2025 Model Y?

The most common causes are: the drive is formatted NTFS instead of FAT32/exFAT, the file is at the USB root instead of Boombox/LockChime.wav, or the USB is in a rear power-only port. Reformat as FAT32/exFAT, confirm the exact folder path, and use one of the three front data ports.

Do I need a USB-C drive for the 2025 Model Y Juniper?

The Juniper interior replaced USB-A ports with USB-C. You can use a native USB-C drive or a standard USB-A drive with a USB-A to USB-C adapter. The drive still needs FAT32 or exFAT formatting and the Boombox/LockChime.wav path.

What firmware does the 2025 Model Y Juniper need for Boombox?

All 2025 Model Y vehicles shipped with Boombox enabled (2024.x / 2025.x firmware). If Toybox → Boombox is missing, trigger a software update from Controls → Software. Boombox has been stable on Juniper since the initial 2025 release firmware.

Is the Boombox path different on Model Y 2025 vs 2024?

No — the file path is the same across all compatible Model Y generations. Both 2024 and 2025 use Boombox/LockChime.wav on a FAT32 or exFAT USB drive. The only hardware difference is USB-A (2024) vs USB-C (2025 Juniper).
