Tesla Model Y Lock Sound: Install Guide
Boombox works on all Model Y years once the car is on the Holiday Update (software 2023.44 or newer). The only platform shift is the 2025+ Juniper refresh, which moved the front data ports to USB-C only.

Steps
Download a sound
Pick from the library, or generate one with AI voice. Save the .wav locally.
Format your USB
FAT32 or exFAT. Any size works, even 64 MB. Empty stick recommended.
Make a /Boombox folder
Create one folder named exactly Boombox at the USB root. Capital B, case-sensitive.
Drop the WAV in /Boombox/
The file must be named exactly LockChime.wav. It is the only name Tesla recognizes.
Plug into a front USB port
Model 3/Y: front console port (USB-C on newer builds, USB-A on older). S/X and CT: center console.
Model Y port note
Juniper (2025+): glovebox / front USB-C only. Pre-Juniper (2020–2024): glovebox front USB-A or USB-C. Center-console and rear ports are not reliable for Boombox.
Lock the car
Walk away or hit the key fob. Your sound plays through the external speaker.
Most common Model Y failure: rear-port plug
On 2020–2024 Model Y the rear-console USB ports look identical to the front ones but are power-only. If your stick is in a rear port, Boombox will show USB as greyed out. Move it to the glovebox or front center-console data port and the USB source appears within seconds.
FAQ
Does Model Y Juniper (2025+) support custom lock sounds?
Yes. Juniper supports the same Boombox/LockChime.wav workflow as earlier Model Y. The Juniper refresh shifted the front data ports to USB-C only, so use a USB-C drive or a USB-A-to-C adapter.
Where is the data USB port on Model Y?
Front of the cabin: typically the glovebox port (most reliable for Boombox) or the front center-console front-facing port. Avoid rear-console ports; they are power-only on most Model Y builds.
What's the most common Model Y install failure?
Pre-Juniper Model Y owners often plug into the rear-console USB ports out of habit (they look identical). Those are power-only. The Boombox menu will show USB as unavailable until you move the stick to the glovebox or front center-console data port.
