Tesla Model Y Lock Sound — Install Guide

Model Y is the most-downloaded platform on TeslaLockSound. Boombox works on every Model Y from 2020 onward on software 2023.44.25 or newer. The only platform shift is the 2025+ Juniper refresh, which moved the front data ports to USB-C only.

Steps

  1. Format your USB as FAT32 or exFAT

On macOS use Disk Utility → MS-DOS (FAT) or ExFAT. On Windows, right-click drive → Format → FAT32 or exFAT. NTFS and APFS will not work.

  2. Create Boombox/LockChime.wav on the drive

Make a folder named exactly 'Boombox' at the drive root, place LockChime.wav inside. Capital B and capital L matter on some firmware versions.

  3. Insert into a front data USB port

Model Y Juniper (2025+): glovebox / front USB-C only. Pre-Juniper (2020–2024): glovebox front USB-A or USB-C. Center-console and rear ports are not reliable for Boombox.

  4. Enable in Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound

Touchscreen → Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound → switch from Default to USB. Walk away or hit the key fob to test.

Most common Model Y failure: rear-port plug

On 2020–2024 Model Y the rear-console USB ports look identical to the front ones but are power-only. If your stick is in a rear port, Boombox will show USB as greyed out. Move it to the glovebox or front center-console data port and the USB source appears within seconds.

FAQ

Does Model Y Juniper (2025+) support custom lock sounds?

Yes. Juniper supports the same Boombox/LockChime.wav workflow as earlier Model Y. The Juniper refresh shifted the front data ports to USB-C only, so use a USB-C drive or a USB-A-to-C adapter.

Where is the data USB port on Model Y?

Front of the cabin — typically the glovebox port (most reliable for Boombox) or the front center-console front-facing port. Avoid rear-console ports; they are power-only on most Model Y builds.

What's the most common Model Y install failure?

Pre-Juniper Model Y owners often plug into the rear-console USB ports out of habit (they look identical). Those are power-only — the Boombox menu will show USB as unavailable until you move the stick to the glovebox or front center-console data port.
