Tesla Model X Lock Sound: Install Guide
Model X uses the same Boombox/LockChime.wav workflow as Model S. The platform difference that matters for installs: the 2021+ refresh shifted the center-console port from USB-A to USB-C, and pre-September-2019 vehicles lack the external Pedestrian Warning Speaker required for lock chimes.

Steps
Download a sound
Pick from the library, or generate one with AI voice. Save the .wav locally.
Format your USB
FAT32 or exFAT. Any size works, even 64 MB. Empty stick recommended.
Make a /Boombox folder
Create one folder named exactly Boombox at the USB root. Capital B, case-sensitive.
Drop the WAV in /Boombox/
The file must be named exactly LockChime.wav. It is the only name Tesla recognizes.
Plug into a front USB port
Model 3/Y: front console port (USB-C on newer builds, USB-A on older). S/X and CT: center console.
Model X port note
2021+ refresh: center-console USB-C. Legacy 2015–2020: center-console USB-A. Falcon-wing door electronics share the cabin bus but do not affect Boombox routing. Verify the Pedestrian Warning Speaker (PWS) is present: pre-September-2019 cars without it cannot play audio outside the cabin.
Lock the car
Walk away or hit the key fob. Your sound plays through the external speaker.
FAQ
Do the falcon-wing doors affect lock sound playback?
No. The falcon-wing doors share the Model X cabin electrical bus but are not on the Boombox audio path. The lock chime always plays through the external Pedestrian Warning Speaker mounted at the front of the car.
Does my pre-2019 Model X support custom lock sounds?
Pre-September-2019 Model X vehicles shipped without the external PWS. If your Model X is older and never went through a PWS retrofit, Boombox cannot play audio outside the cabin, even with the correct file and software.
Where's the Model X USB data port?
Center console, front-facing. USB-C on 2021+ refresh, USB-A on 2015–2020 legacy. Rear console ports are power-only.
